Thursday, May 8, 2003
The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:23 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Libby Davies, John Finlay, Monique Guay, Judi Longfield, Gurbax Malhi, Larry Spencer and Diane St-Jacques.
Acting Members present: Roy Bailey for Jim Gouk, Lynne Yelich for Monte Solberg, Judith Sgro for Tony Ianno and Joe Jordan for Raymond Simard.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Canada Industrial Relations Board: Akivah L. Starkman, Executive Director; Paul J. Lordon, Chairperson. From the Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal: Marie Senécal-Tremblay, Vice-Chairperson; Josée Dubois, Executive Director and General Counsel. From the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety: Len Hong, President and Chief Executive Officer; Bonnie Easterbrook, Comptroller.
The Committee proceeded to its Order of Reference dated Wednesday, February 26, 2003, relating to the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2004.
On a motion of Eugène Bellemare it was agreed, -- That the budget request of the Subcommittee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities in the amount of $29,300 be adopted.
The Chair called votes 10, 15 andn 20 under Human Resources Development.
Paul J. Lordon, Marie Senécal-Tremblay and Len Hong made opening statements and with the other witnesses answered questions.
At 5:11 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
