Meeting No. 6

Wednesday, November 27, 2002

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 6:10 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Paul Bonwick, Rodger Cuzner, Claude Duplain, Christiane Gagnon, Wendy Lill and Clifford Lincoln.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Sam Banks, Joseph Jackson and Terrence Thomas, research officers.  Consultant:  David Black.

Witnesses: From the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation: Debbie Brisebois, Executive Director; Paul Quassa, Senior Producer. From Northern Native Broadcasting, Yukon: Shirley Adamson, General Manager, Les Carpenter, Director of Radio. From the Inuvialuit Communications Society: Wendy Smith, Executive Director. From Taqramiut Nipingat Incorporated: George Kakayuk, President. From the James Bay Cree Communications Society: Raymond Menarick, President. From la "Société de communication Atikamekw-Montagnais": Bernard Hervieux, Director General. From the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network: Catherine Ann Martin, Secretary. From the Native Communications Society of the Western N.W.T.: Elizabeth Sabet-Biscaye, Executive Director. From Native Communications Incorporated: Dave McLeod, Executive Director. From the Aboriginal Multi-Media Society of Alberta: Bert Crowfoot, General Manager. From the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation: Peter Skinner, Program Manager, CBC North Radio; Cathie Bolstad, Regional Director, Television for the North.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the State of the Canadian Broadcasting System (See Minutes of Proceedings dated November 7, 2002, meeting no. 2).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 7:05 p.m., the Vice-Chair, Paul Bonwick, took the Chair.

At 8:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
