MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Wednesday, November 5, 2003

The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Bonnie Brown, Jeannot Castonguay, Brenda Chamberlain, Stan Dromisky, Grant Hill, Betty Hinton, Karen Kraft Sloan, Réal Ménard, Rob Merrifield and Greg Thompson.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst ; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

Witnesses: University of Ottawa: André J. Potworowski, Associate Director, Research and Development, Centre for Research in Biopharmaceuticals and Biotechnology; Judy Erola, Chairman, Advisory Committee, Health Management Program, School of Management. Gilead Sciences Inc.: Mick Hitchcock, Vice-President, Health; Alix Israels, Marketing Manager, Canada. IMS Health: Roger Korman, President; Gary Fabian, Vice President, Corporate Relations; Anita Fineberg, Corporate Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 17, 2003, the Committee resumed its study of Prescription Drugs.

André Potworowski, Judy Erola, Mick Hitchcock and Roger Korman made statements and, with other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 6:26 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

At 6:53 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
