The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Rick Casson, Roy Cullen, Nick Discepola, Albina Guarnieri, Richard Harris, Sophia Leung, The Hon. Maria Minna, Shawn Murphy, The Hon. Lorne Nystrom, Pierre Paquette, Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Member present: Ivan Grose for Gary Pillitteri

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament:  June Dewetering, Acting Principal Analyst; Marc-André Pigeon, Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Credit Union Central of Canada: Joanne De Laurentiis, President and Chief Executive Officer; Wayne A. Nygren, Director, Board of Directors and Chair, Legislative Affairs Advisory Committee, President and Chief Executive Officer, Credit Union Central of British Columbia; Jack Smit, Chairperson, Board of Directors, President and Chief Executive Officer, St. Willibrord Community Credit Union. From the ATB Financial: Robert Ascah, Vice President, Corporate Planning. From the CS CO-OP (Community Financial Services): Gary M. Seveny, President & Chief Executive Officer; Madeleine Brillant, Vice President, Corporate Affairs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the public interest implications of large bank mergers.

Jack Smit, Robert Ascah and Gary M. Seveny made a statement and with Wayne A. Nygren, Madeleine Brillant and Joanne de Laurentiis answered questions.

At 5:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
