Meeting No. 9

Monday, November 18, 2002

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Bernard Patry, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Stéphane Bergeron, Aileen Carroll, Bill Casey, Irwin Cotler, Stockwell Day, John Duncan, The Hon. Art Eggleton, Mark Eyking, John Harvard, Marlene Jennings, Francine Lalonde, Bernard Patry,.

Acting Members present: Alexa McDonough for Svend Robinson; Jim Gook for Keith Martin; Brian Pallister for Deepak Obhrai.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.

Witnesses: As Individual: Peggy Mason, Former Ambassador for Disarmament, International Security Policy Expert. From Project Ploughshares: Ernie Regehr, Executive Director. From the Royal Military College of Canada: Houchang Hassan-Yari, Professor of Political Science. From the "Université de Sherbrooke": Sami Aoun, Professor of Political Science.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of the situation of Iraq (See Minutes of Proceedings, Monday, October 28, 2002, Meeting No. 2).

The witnesses made opening statement and answered questions.

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
