The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Bernard Patry, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Murray Calder, Stockwell Day, John Duncan, Hon. Art Eggleton, Mark Eyking, Bernard Patry, Karen Redman.

Acting Members present: Dick Proctor for Alexa McDonough, Pauline Picard for Francine Lalonde, Howard Hilstrom for Deepak Obhrai.

In attendance: From the Committees Directorate:  Richard Rumas, Committee Clerk.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Library, Library of Parliament: James Lee and Marcus Pistor, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Claudio Valle, Director, Technical Barriers and Regulations. From the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Andrew Marsland, Director General, International Markets Bureau. From the Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Paul Haddow, Executive Director, International Affaires.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced consideration of the issue of restrictions by certain countries on beef imports from Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of May 27, 2003, Meeting No. 36).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 9:13 a.m., the Hon. Art Eggleton took the Chair.

At 10:17 a.m., Bernard Patry took the Chair.

At 10:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
