The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:46 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Rick Borotsik, Claude Duplain, Mark Eyking, Marcel Gagnon, Howard Hilstrom, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.
Acting Members present: Carol Skelton for David Anderson; Leon Benoit for Garry Breitkreuz.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, analyst; Bronwyn Pavey, analyst.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Cervid Council: Serge Buy, Executive Director; Dr. Terry Church, President and Vice-President, Alberta Elk Association; Mike Bringans, Director and Scientific Advisor. From the As Individual: Ray Ference, Elk Valley Ranches, Alberta; Brian Oestreicher, Elk Hills Ranch Ltd., Saskatchewan.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Briefing Session on Chronic Wasting Disease in the elk population.
Terry Church, Mike Bringans and Serge Buy made opening statements and answered questions.
Ray Ference and Brian Oestreicher made opening statements and answered questions.
At 12:15 p.m., the meeting was suspended.
At 12:16 p.m., the meeting resumed.
At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
