The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met at 3:28 p.m. this day, in Room 269 West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair and Vice-Chair pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) and 106 (2).

 

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Binet, Raymond Bonin, Serge Cardin, David Chatters, Stan Dromisky, John Duncan, Charles Hubbard, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Yvan Loubier, Pat Martin, Anita Neville and Gary Schellenberger.

 

Acting Members present: Larry Bagnell for Benoît Serré, Roy Bailey for Maurice Vellacott, Christian Jobin for John Godfrey, John O'Reilly for Guy St-Julien and Alan Tonks for Gérard Binet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst. House of Commons: Eugene Morawski, Committee Clerk.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

David Chatters moved, — That Raymond Bonin be elected Chair of the Committee.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Raymond Bonin, David Chatters, Stan Dromisky, John Duncan, Charles Hubbard, Christian Jobin, Pat Martin, Anita Neville, John O'Reilly, Gary Schellenberger — 10; NAYS: Serge Cardin, Yvan Loubier — 2.

 

Raymond Bonin was declared duly elected Chair.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Vice-Chairs.

 

On motion of John Duncan, it was agreed, — That Anita Neville be elected as Goverment Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Anita Neville was declared duly elected as Goverment Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Charles Hubbard moved, — That Maurice Vellacott be elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Yvan Loubier moved, — That Pat Martin be elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(3), the election was conducted by secret ballot.

The ballots having been counted, Maurice Vellacott was declared duly elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

At 3:41 p.m., Raymond Bonin took the Chair.

 

At 3:42 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
