MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 34

Tuesday, November 20, 2001

The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade, the Chair, Ovid Jackson presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Cannis, Joe Comuzzi, André Harvey, Ovid Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Val Meredith, Marcel Proulx, Alex Shepherd, Paul Szabo.

Acting Members present: Stan Keyes for Reg Alcock, Bill Matthews for Gerry Byrne.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: John Christopher; June Dewetering, Researchers.

Witnesses: From the First Air: Robert (Bob) Davis, President and CEO. From the Air Canada Pilots Association: Captain Dave Lynch, Chairman of the Technical and Safety Division.

In accordance with Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the current state of airline safety and security in Canada.

 

Robert Davies and Dave Lynch both made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:31 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

 

At 12:33 p.m. the sitting was resumed.

 

It was agreed: - That the first draft of the Committee’s report on airline and airport security be distributed to the Committee members on Wednesday December 5, 2001 and that the Committee meet on Thursday, December 6, 2001 to consider the draft report.

 

It was agreed: - That the Committee invite the Minister of Transport to appear as soon as possible with regards to the Supplementary Estimates.

 

It was agreed: - That the Committee invite the Minister of Public Works and Government Services to appear as soon as possible with regards to the Supplementary Estimates.

 

At, 12:47 p.m. the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
