MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 8

Tuesday, October 23, 2001

The Budget Sub-Committee of the Liaison Committee met in camera at 6:05 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Wayne Easter, Bill Graham, Judi Longfield, Susan Whelan, John Williams.

Other Members present: Michel Guimond, Charles Hubbard, Ovid Jackson.

In attendance: From the Committees Directorate: Paul Cardegna, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations; Andrew Chaplin, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans; Elizabeth Kingston, Clerk of the Sub-Committee on Human Rights and International Development; Stephen Knowles, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade; Normand Radford, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology; Suzanne Verville, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food.

Consideration of budget submissions in accordance with Standing Order 107(1).

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans be granted an additional operational budget of $11,704 for the committee's operations.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food be granted a budget of $66,300 to travel to Orangeville, ON; Napanee, ON; Saint Hyacinthe, QC; Montmagny, QC from November 18 to 22, 2001 for its study on future role of the government in the agricultural sector.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration be granted a budget of $46,567 to travel across Canada, from November 5 to 8, 2001 for its study on security at ports of entry for immigrants.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans be granted a budget of $145,000 to travel to the Vancouver Area, Victoria, BC; Tofino/Ucluelet, BC; Boeing Field, Seattle, US; Prince Rupert, BC, Vancouver, BC, from November 19 to 24, 2001 for its study on marine communications and traffic services capabilities.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology be granted a budget of $67,200 to travel to Washington, DC, from November 25 to 27, 2001 for its study on peer review and regulatory framework.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations be granted a budget of $86,958 to travel to Washington, DC from November 18 to 22, 2001 for its study on airline and airport security and hours of service of truckers.

It was agreed, - That $30,000 be added to the coffee reserve.

It was agreed, - That the Chair write to the Clerk of the House requesting that coffee, tea and juice expenses for committee meetings held in the parliamentary precinct no longer be charged to, and be paid out of the $2 millions envelope for committee activities.

At 6:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
