The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in camera at 10:08 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, John Bryden, Odina Desrochers, Mac Harb, Pat Martin, Philip Mayfield, Shawn Murphy, Joe Peschisolido, Beth Phinney, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.
Acting Members present: Joe Jordon for John Finlay; Marcel Proulx for Sophia Leung; Gerry Ritz for Paul Forseth; Val Meredith for Rahim Jaffer; Ghislain Lebel for Gilles-A. Perron; Peter MacKay for Greg Thompson.
Associate Members present: Peter MacKay, Val Meredith and Gerry Ritz.
Other Member present: Serge Marcil.
In attendance: From the House of Commons: Rob Walsh, Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel; Greg Tardi, Legislative Counsel. From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.
Also in attendance: Marino Mendo, Legal Counsel to Pierre Tremblay.
Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada. As Individual: Pierre Tremblay, Former Acting Executive Director, Communications Coordination Services, Department of Public Works and Government Services.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of the Report of the Auditor General of Canada dated May 8, 2002 on Groupaction Communications. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, May 30, 2002, Meeting No. 57; Thursday, June 6, 2002, Meeting No. 59; Thursday, June 13, 2002, Meeting No. 61)
The witnesses answered questions.
It was agreed, - That the Committee request that the Department of Public Works and Government Services provide a copy of the letter dated October 3, 1999 from Pierre Tremblay to private agencies concerning the operation of the Sponsorship Program.
At 12:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
