Tuesday, May 15, 2001

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:44 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Bryden, Odina Desrochers, John Finlay, Mac Harb, Marlene Jennings, Sophia Leung, Shawn Murphy, Joe Peschisolido, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean Dupuis, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Interim Auditor General of Canada; Maria Barrados, Assistant Auditor General; Kathryn Elliott, Principal, Audit Operations. From the Treasury Board of Canada - Secretariat: Frank Claydon, Secretary of the Treasury Board and Comptroller General of Canada; Carole Swan, Associate Secretary of the Treasury Board; Marcel Nouvet, Chief Human Resources Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 9, (Streamlining the Human Resource Management Regime: A Study of Changing Roles and Responsibilities) of the April 2000 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, May 1, 2001, Meeting No. 12)

Sheila Fraser from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada made a statement.

Frank Claydon from Treasury Board Secretariat made a statement.

Sheila Fraser, Frank Claydon, Marcel Nouvet and Carole Swan answered questions.

At 5:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned until 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001.
