The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 10:40 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Mauril Bélanger, Pierre Brien, John Cannis, Bev Desjarlais, Walt Lastewka, James Rajotte and Paddy Torsney.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Coalition for Biomedical and Health Research: Dr. Barry D. McLennan, Chair; Charles Pitts, Executive Director. As Individual: Dr. Thomas J. Hudson, Director, Montreal Genome Centre, McGill University, Assistant Director Centre for Genome Research, Whitehead Institute / Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From the National Research Council of Canada: Dr. Peter A. Hackett, Vice President, Research and Technology Development.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of the Science and Technology Policies:
Roundtable: Research and Development in Biotechnologies.
Dr. Barry D. McLennan, Dr. Thomas J. Hudson and Dr. Peter A. Hackett each made an opening statement and with Charles Pitts answered questions.
At 12:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
