The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 3:19 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Peter Adams, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Jeannot Castonguay, Paul Crête, Georges Farrah, Joe McGuire, Val Meredith, Anita Neville, Carol Skelton, Diane St-Jacques and Alan Tonks.

Acting Member(s) present: Yvon Godin for Libby Davies, Charles Hubbard for Raymonde Folco and Jean-Yves Roy for Monique Guay.

Other Member(s) present: Guy St-Julien.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, February 13, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-2, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act and the Employment Insurance (Fishing) Regulations (See Minutes of Proceedings, Wednesday, February 21, 2001, Meeting No. 2).

Gaétan Cousineau, Yvan Lebrun, Rodrigue Vaillancourt, Judith Fugère, Pierre Céré and Vital Gilbert made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

The written brief of the Mouvement autonome et solidaire was tabled in lieu of their testimony.

It was agrred, - That the document presented to the Committee by ""Coalition Gaspésie/Les Îles, Matapédia, Matane", signed Tony Wohlfarth of Human Resources Development Canada, be filed as exhibit to today's Minutes of Proceedings (See EXIBIT "HUMA 1").

Paul Crête gave notice of the following motion: - That the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities report to the House of Commons all amendments to the Employment Insurance Act proposed in the course of hearings held during consideration of Bill C-2; and that this report be tabled to the House no later than June 1, 2001.

At 5:12 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
