MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

 

Meeting No. 4

Tuesday, March 13, 2001

 

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 9:05 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Vice Chair, Dennis Mills, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarmite Bulte, Rodger Cuzner, Christiane Gagnon, John Harvard, André Harvey, Loyola Hearn, Clifford Lincoln, Dennis Mills, Bryon Wilfert. 

Acting Member present: Rob Merrifield for Cheryl Gallant, Diane Bourgeois for Caroline St-Hillaire, Libby Davies for Wendy Lill.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:, Joe Jackson and Terry Thomas, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From Canadian Heritage: Michael Wernick, Assistant Deputy Minister, Cultural Development; Allan Clarke, Director General, Publishing Policy & Program; Heather Reisman, Chief Executive Officer, Chapters Inc.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a follow-up on the Committee's Report on the Canadian Book Industry (June 2000)

Michael Wernick and Allan Clarke made statements and answered questions.

At 9:20 a.m. Clifford Lincoln took the chair.

At 10:00 a.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 11:35 a.m. the sitting resumed in a televised session in Room 253D, Centre Block.

Heather Reisman made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:33 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
