Meeting No. 43

Thursday, November 22, 2001

The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Stan Dromisky, Judy Sgro.

Acting Members present: Larry Bagnell for Colleen Beaumier, Claude Drouin for Hélène Scherrer, Mac Harb for Jeannot Castonguay, Stan Keyes for Reg Alcock, Preston Manning for Diane Ablonczy, Paddy Torsney for Yolande Thibeault.

Associate Members present: Preston Manning.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Sonya Norris, and Monique Hébert, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the University of Ottawa: Martha Jackman, Professor, Faculty of Law. As Individual: Gerald Chipeur, Lawyer.

The Committee resumed consideration of the draft legislation on Assisted Human Reproduction. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, May 3, 2001, Meeting No. 13).

Preston Manning moved, -- That the Committee hold meetings to consider and report the Supplementary Estimates (A) for 2001-02 for the Department of Health; That the Committee invite the Minister and senior officials to appear before it on the Supplementary Estimates (A) for 2001-02 as soon as possible but no later than December 1, 2001; and, That the Committee consider and report recommendations on the Supplementary Estimates (A) for 2001-02 no later than three sitting days prior to the final allotted day in the current Supply period.

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

The witnesses each made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
