Meeting No. 25

Wednesday, June 6, 2001

The Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met at 3:42 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Derek Lee, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rick Borotsik, Michel Guimond, Derek Lee, Carolyn Parrish and John Richardson.

Acting Members present: Gérard Asselin for Stéphane Bergeron; Wendy Lill for Yvon Godin.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Robertson, research officer.

Witnesses: From the Senate: The Hon. Jerahmiel S. Grafstein. From the House of Commons: Marlene Jennings, Notre-Dame-de-Grâce--Lachine.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, April 24, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-10, An Act to amend the Parliament of Canada Act (Parliamentary Poet Laureate) (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, March 13, 2001, Meeting No. 7).

Senator Grafstein and Marlene Jennings made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

In accordance with the mandate of the Committee concerning its responsibilities as the Striking Committee and in accordance with an Order adopted on Wednesday, February 7, 2001, the Twenty-Sixth Report is deemed to have been adopted and the Chair is ordered to present it to the House.
