MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 58

Thursday, June 13, 2002

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 9:34 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Andy Burton, John Cummins, Wayne Easter, Loyola Hearn, Dominic LeBlanc, James Lunney, Bill Matthews, Jean-Yves Roy, Paul Steckle, Peter Stoffer.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Lorie Srivastava, François Côté, Research Officers.

It was agreed, – That the Committee thank Hélène MacTavish-Couture for her interpretation services to the Committee.

It was agreed, – That the Committee thank the Clerk for his service with the Committee.

The Committee proceed to consider matters related to the future business of the Committee.

At 9:39 a.m., the Committee met in public session.

On the motion of Bill Matthews, it was agreed, – That the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans call upon the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, the Honourable Robert Thibault, to appear before it next week to discuss the contents and recommendations of the Committee’s Tenth Report and the statements attributed to the Minister dismissing the unanimous recommendations of the Committee on the same day which the report was tabled.

At 9:49 a.m., the Committee met in camera.

It was agreed, – That the Research Staff prepare a paper on the jurisdictional arrangements between DFO and the provinces concerning freshwater fisheries.

At 10:04 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
