The Standing Committee on Finance met at 10:35 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Scott Brison, Richard Harris, Sophia Leung, Maria Minna, Bryon Wilfert.
Acting Member present: Mac Harb for Albina Guarnieri.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of
Parliament: June Dewetering, Acting Principal, Blayne Haggart and
Marc-André Pigeon, Research Officers.
Appearing: From the Department of Finance: Bryon Wilfert, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance.
Witnesses: From the Department of Finance: Denis Normand, Senior Chief, Payments, Financial Sector Division, Financial Sector Policy Branch; Doug Wyatt, General Counsel, General Legal Services. From the Montreal Stock Exchange Inc.: Luc Bertrand, President & CEO.
In conformity with its Order of Reference of Friday, April 19, 2002, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill S-40, An Act to amend the Payment Clearing and Settlement Act.
The Chair called Clause 1.
Bryon Wilfert made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
Luc Bertrand made a statement and answered questions.
At 11:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
