Monday, May 28, 2001

The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roy Cullen, Ken Epp, Roger Gallaway, Sophia Leung, John McCallum, Lorne Nystrom and Gary Pillitteri.

Acting Members present: Renée Falco for Nick Discepola; Charles Hubbard for Carolyn Bennett; Charles Hubbard for Gary Pillitteri  and Antoine Dubé for Yvan Loubier.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Blayne Haggart and Marc-André Pigeon, Researchers. From Legislative Services:  Susan Baldwin, Legislative Clerk.

The Order of Reference dated Thursday, May 10, 2001, being now read as follows:

ORDERED, -- That Bill S-16, An Act to amend the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) Act be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.

The Chair called Clause 1.

The parliamentary secretary made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:11 p.m. the Committee proceeded to Clause-by-Clause consideration of the Bill.

Clauses 1 to 4 carried, severally.

The Title carried.

The Bill, carried.

ORDERED, -- That the Chair report Bill S-16, without amendment, to the House as the Eighth Report of the Committee.

At 4:12 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
