The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 9:12 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Charles L. Caccia, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Charles L. Caccia, John Herron, Karen Kraft Sloan, Karen Redman, Julian Reed, Andy Savoy, Hélène Scherrer, Alan Tonks.
Acting Member present: Rick Casson for Bob Mills.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas and Tim Williams, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Environmental Law Centre: Arlene J. Kwasniak, Barrister and Solicitor. From the Sierra Legal Defence Fund - Toronto: Jerry DeMarco, Managing Lawyer. From the West Coast Environmental Law Association: Karen Campbell, Counsel.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Monday, June 4, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-19, An Act to amend the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, December 4, 2001, Meeting No. 56).
The witnesses made opening statements.
On motion of Karen Kraft Sloan, it was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the operational budget in the amount of $71,000.00.
The witnesses answered questions.
At 10:52 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
