Meeting No. 32

Tuesday, June 12, 2001

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in a televised session at 9:12 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Charles L. Caccia, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Charles L. Caccia, Aileen Carroll, Joe Comartin, Paul Forseth, Gar Knutson, Karen Kraft Sloan, Bob Mills, Karen Redman, Julian Reed, Hélène Scherrer.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas, Monique Hébert and Tim Williams, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Johanne Gélinas, Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development; John Reed, Principal, Audit Operations; Wayne Cluskey, Principal, Audit Operations.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108, a briefing by the Commissioner of Environment and Sustainable Development on the mandate, activities, priorities and strategies of the Office of the Commissioner on Environment and Sustainable Development.

Johanne Gélinas made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 11:13 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
