The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in the Wentworth Centre Room of the Howard Johnson Hotel, Truro, Nova Scotia, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Larry McCormick, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle, Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Member present: Odina Desrochers for Suzanne Tremblay.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Researcher.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the Future Role of the Government in Agriculture.

Witnesses: From the Nova Scotia Agriculture & Fisheries Department: The Hon. Ernest Fage, Minister.

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:07 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:24 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Panel: From the Chicken Farmers of Nova Scotia: Paul Cook. From the Nova Scotia Egg Producers: Ralph DeLong, Chairman. From the Nova Scotia Agricultural College: Dr. Bruce Gray. From the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture: Fraser M. Hunter, Chairman of Industry Planning Committee; Lawrence Nason, Chief Executive Officer. From the Agra-Futures: Charles Keddy. From the New Democratic Party of Nova Scotia: John MacDonnell, Agriculture Critic. From the As Individual: Ed Belzer.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 11:59 a.m., the Chair, Charles Hubbard, took the Chair.

At 12:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
