Tuesday, November 16, 1999

The Standing Committee on Transport met in a televised session at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Stan Keyes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Roy Bailey, Murray Calder, Bill Casey, Joe Comuzzi, Bev Desjarlais, Stan Dromisky, Claude Drouin, Joe Fontana, Michel Guimond, Charles Hubbard, Ovid Jackson, Dale Johnston, Stan Keyes, Val Meredith, Lou Sekora.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: John Christopher; June Dewetering, Researchers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Auto Workers Union: Basil "Buzz" Hargrove, President; Gary Fane, Director of Transportation; Peggy Nash, Assistant to the President; Jim Stanford, Economist. From the Canadian Union of Public Employees (Airline Division): Joan Darcy, National President; Denise Hill, Division President; Richard Balnis, Researcher CUPE National. From the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in Canada: Dave Ritchie, Canadian Vice-President; Vincent Blais, Administrative Assistant to the Canadian Vice-President; Louis Erlichman, Canadian Research Director. From the Canadian Labour Congress: Hassan Yussuff, Executive Vice-President; Kevin Hayes, Senior Economist; Cliff Andstein, Executive Assistant to the President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the future of the airline industry in Canada.

Basil Hargrove made an opening statement and, with Gary Fane, Peggy Nash and Jim Stanford, answered questions.

At 4:50 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was suspended.

At 4:57 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was resumed.

Joan Darcy made an opening statement and, with Denise Hill and Richard Balnis, answered questions.

At 6:27 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was suspended.

At 6:40 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was resumed.

Dave Ritchie made an opening statement and, with Louis Erlichman and Vincent Blais, answered questions.

At 7:40 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was suspended.

At 7:48 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was resumed.

Hassan Yussuff made an opening statement and, with Cliff Andstein and Kevin Hayes, answered questions.

At 8:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
