Meeting No. 9
Thursday, June 1st, 2000
The Sub-Committee on Private Members' Business of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met at 8:37 a.m. this day, in Room 306, West Block, the Chair, Larry McCormick, presiding.
Members of the Sub-Committee present: David Chatters, Joe Jordan and Larry McCormick.
Acting Members present: Gilles Bernier for Norman Doyle; Yvon Godin for Bill Blaikie; Suzanne Tremblay for Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Robertson, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the House of Commons: Peter Goldring, Eric Lowther, Paul Szabo, Benoît Sauvageau, Leon Benoit and Michelle Dockrill.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs adopted on Tuesday, October 19, 1999, the Sub-Committee proceeded to select votable items from bills and motions whose order of precedence has been established on Thursday, May 18, 2000.
The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
At 9:35 a.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 9:40 a.m., the sitting resumed "in camera" to select votable items and to consider a draft report concerning Standing Order 87(6).
It was agreed, - that a submission by Bill Jeffrey from the Centre for Science in the Public Interest concerning Standing Order 87(6), be tabled.
On motion of Mr. Jordan, it was agreed, - That the Draft Report, as amended, be adopted as the Sub-Committee's Report and that the Chair present it to the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs.
At 10:30 a.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
