MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 7

Thursday, December 2, 1999

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 10:42 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Andy Scott, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Michel Bellehumeur, Chuck Cadman, Ivan Grose, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay and Andy Scott.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Resource Centre for Victims of Crime: Steve Sullivan, Executive Director. From the Victims of Violence Centre for Missing Children: Erin Hatfield, Research Director. From the As Individual: Bruce McGloan. From the National Pensioners and Senior Citizens Federation: Don Holloway, President.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, November 23, 1999, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-3, An Act in respect of criminal justice for young persons and to amend and repeal other Acts (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, November 30, 1999 , Meeting No. 5).

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

Peter MacKay moved, - That the Committee invite the Minister of Justice, the Solicitor General and the Auditor General to appear before the Committee on Supplementary Estimates (a) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2000, at the earliest possible opportunity.

After debate, the question being put on the motion it was agreed to.

At 12:38 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
