Wednesday, May 31, 2000

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Andy Scott, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Chuck Cadman, Aileen Carroll, Paul DeVillers, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, Peter Mancini, John Reynolds, Jacques Saada, Andy Scott and Pierrette Venne.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada: John M. Reid, Information Commissioner of Canada; Alan Leadbeater, Deputy Information Commissioner; Daniel Brunet, General Counsel.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(6) and the Order of Reference dated Tuesday, February 29, 2000, relating to the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2001, being read as follows:

ORDERED, -- That Vote 40 under JUSTICE, be referred to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.

The Chair called vote 40.

John Reid made an opening statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 4:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
