Meeting No. 18

Tuesday, December 14, 1999

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Cannis, Antoine Dubé, Marlene Jennings, Jim Jones, Walt Lastewka, Gurbax Malhi, Charlie Penson, Jerry Pickard and Susan Whelan.

Acting Member present: Gordon Earle for Nelson Riis.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Branch of the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Shipbuilding Association of Canada: Peter Cairns, President. From the Chamber of Maritime Commerce: Raymond Johnston, President; Jim Campbell, Vice-President/General Manager. From the Canadian Shipowners Association: Donald N. Morrison, President; Réjean Lanteigne, Vice-President, Operations.

Pursuant to the Committee's mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the committee resumed consideration of its study concerning Productivity, Innovation and Competitiveness in the Shipbuilding Sector (see Minutes of Proceedings and the Evidence for Tuesday, November 2, 1999, Meeting No. 2)

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 10:13 a.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 11:30 a.m. the sitting resumed in Room 307, West Block.

At 11:42 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
