Tuesday, April 11, 2000

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:36 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Colleen Beaumier, Bill Graham, Francine Lalonde, Diane Marleau, Ted McWhinney, Denis Paradis, Bernard Patry, Yves Rocheleau.

Associate Members present: Eleni Bakopanos, Gurmant Grewal.

From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz and James Lee, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From World Wide Minerals Ltd.: Paul Carroll, Spokesperson. From Cameco Gold Ltd.: Len Homeniuk, President. From SNC-LAVALIN Inc.: Daniel Grabowski, Area Manager. From Caspian Energy Consulting: Dr. Rob Sobhani, President, Professor, Georgetown University and Expert on Caspian and Middle East Persian Gulf Issues.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee continued its examination of Canada's foreign policy interests in South Caucasus and Central Asia (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, April 4, 2000, Meeting No. 35.)

Paul Carroll, Len Homeniuk, Daniel Grabowski and Dr. Rob Sobhani each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 11:50 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
