Meeting No. 54

Thursday, October 19, 2000

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 9:20 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Charles L. Caccia, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Charles L. Caccia, Gar Knutson, Karen Kraft Sloan, David Pratt, Karen Redman, Julian Reed.

Associate Member present: Clifford Lincoln.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas and Christine Labelle, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada: Dr. David M. Green, Chair, Redpath Museum, McGill University; Dr. J. Sherman Boates, Manager, Biodiversity, Department of Natural Resources (N.S.); Dr. Marco Festa-Bianchet, Co-Chair, Department of Biology, University of Sherbrooke; Dave Fraser, Endangered Species Specialist, Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks (B.C.).

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of issues pertaining to the protection of wildlife species at risk in Canada with respect to Bill C-33, an Act respecting the protection of wildlife species at risk in Canada.

David Green and Sherman Boates made statements and with David Fraser and Marco Festa-Bianchet answered questions.

At 11:28 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
