MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 18

Tuesday, February 8, 2000

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in camera at 9:18 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Charles L. Caccia, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Charles L. Caccia, Marlene Catterall, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, John Herron, Rahim Jaffer, Joe Jordan, Karen Kraft Sloan, Walt Lastewka, Julian Reed, Paddy Torsney.

Acting Members present: Clifford Lincoln for Nick Discepola, Aileen Carroll for David Pratt, Dennis Gruendig for Peter Mancini.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert, Christine Labelle and Linda Webster, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed its study on the management and use of pesticides in Canada including an evaluation of the performance of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency in preventing pollution and in protecting the environment and human health (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, October 26,1999 (Meeting no. 1)).

It was agreed, -That the Committee enter into a contract with Verena J. Ossent for a period not exceeding 6 working weeks at an amount not exceeding $340 per day for the purpose of assisting the Committee in providing French editorial services for its study on pesticides.

It was agreed -That the Committee enter into a contract with Arrow Ecologic, Alison McLaughlin, Principal, for a period not exceeding 6 working weeks at an amount not exceeding $ 300 per day for the purpose of assisting the Committee in providing English editorial services for its study of pesticides.

The Committee discussed a draft report.

It was agreed - That the Clerk obtain for those Committee Members who request, books and documents relating to the Rocky Mountain Institute directed by Mr. Amory Lovins.

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
