Meeting No. 28

Thursday, June 1st, 2000

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9: 19 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, John Bryden, Joe Fontana and Steve Mahoney.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Martha Nixon, Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations; William A. Sheppit, Director General, Case Management; Joan Atkinson, Acting Deputy Minister, Policy and Program Development; Georges Tsaï, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services; Neil Heywood, Director, Immigration Health Policy.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 3 (Citizenship and Immigration Canada - The Economic Component of the Canadian Immigration Program) of the Report of the Auditor General of Canada, April 2000. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, May 31, 2000, Meeting No. 27)

Martha Nixon made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 9:55 a.m., Steve Mahoney took the Chair.

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned until 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2000.
