The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Leon Benoit, John Bryden, Joe Fontana, Rick Limoges, Steve Mahoney, John McKay, David Price and Andrew Telegdi.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees: Judith Kumin, Representative in Canada; Patrick Tezier, Senior Protection Officer; Greg Lyndon, Legal Officer. As an Individual: Barbara Jackman, Immigration and Refugee Lawyer. From the Inter-Church Committee for Refugees: Tom Clark, Coordinator; Timothy Wichert, Representative of the Mennonite Central Committee, Ontario.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on all aspects of the Refugee Determination System and Illegal Migrants. (see Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, November 3, 1999, Meeting No. 2)
Judith Kumin from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees made a statement and, with Greg Lyndon, answered questions.
At 10:34 a.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 12:20 p.m., the sitting resumed.
Barbara Jackman made a statement and answered questions.
Timothy Wichert from the Inter-Church Committee for Refugees made a statement and, with Tom Clark, answered questions.
At 1:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned until 9:00 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2000.
