MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 4

Thursday, February 18, 1999

The Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 3:48 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Carolyn Bennett, presiding.

Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Wendy Lill and The Hon. Andy Scott.

Acting Member(s) present: Ovid Jackson for Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Sheila Finestone for Judi Longfield and Diane Ablonczy for Deborah Grey.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder and Bill Young, Research Officers.

The Sub-Committee proceeded to consideration of future business.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, - That the Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities urge the government to carry out a Health and Activity Limitation Survey of persons with disabilities in 2001 following the next census, and that the government announce its intention to proceed with a 2001 HALS, no later than May 14th, 1999.

Ordered, That the Chair of the Committee should communicate this recommendation to the Ministers of Human Resources Development, Industry, Health, Treasury Board, Finance, Transport, Canadian Heritage and Public Works and Government Services (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation), and Intergovernmental Affairs.

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
