Thursday, February 4, 1999

The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David Chatters, Roy Cullen, Pierre de Savoye, John Duncan, Marlene Jennings, Carmen Provenzano, Werner Schmidt and Brent St. Denis.

Acting Member(s) present: Gerald Keddy for Gilles Bernier.

Associate Member(s) present: Ghislain Fournier.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Research Officer.

Witness(es):From the Natural Resources Canada: Bruce W. Boyd, Deputy Director, Minerals Division; From the Indian Affairs and Northern Development: Doug Paget, Chief, Special Projects.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced an examination of the Canadian diamond industry in Canada.

Bruce Boyd made a statement and with the other witness answered questions.

At 12:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
