The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met in camera at 11:05 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 307, West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, Gilles Bernier, Gerry Byrne, David Chatters, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, Yvon Godin, Jim Gouk, Ovid L. Jackson, Jerry Pickard, Carmen Provenzano, Ben Serré, Darrel Stinson, Brent St. Denis and Bob Wood.
Substitute Members present: Ken Epp for Darrel Stinson.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages and Jack Stilborn, Research Officers.
The Committee discussed its future business.
It was agreed – That the Clerk of the Committee be authorized to distribute documents only once they have been translated in both official languages.
It was agreed – That the Committee conduct hearings and research on the topic of Implementing the Kyoto Commitments: The Natural Resource Sector Response. This work to be conducted in the context of barriers and opportunities and the role of technology, voluntary measures, economic instruments (emissions trading, tax incentives, etc.) and federal government policy initiatives.
It was agreed – That the Committee conduct a study on the operations of the Cape Breton Development Corporation.
It was agreed – That the Chair request an operating budget of $55,000 from the Sub-Committee on Budget for the period from April 1, 1998, to December 31, 1998.
At 12:00 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
