MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 108

Thursday, April 29, 1999

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:20 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Vice-Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Hart, René Laurin, David Pratt and David Price.

Acting Members present: Julian Reed for Judy Longfield and Daniel Turp for Ghislain Lebel.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Corinne McDonald, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff; Vadm G.R. Maddison, Chief Maritime Staff. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Jim Wright, Director General for Central East and South Europe. From the Canadian International Development Agency: Charles Bassett, Vice-President, Central and Eastern Europe Branch; Hélène Corneau, Program Manager, Central and Eastern Europe Programme.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing session on the situation in Kosovo.

Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault, Vadm G.R. Maddison and Jim Wright each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 4:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
