Thursday, February 12, 1998



The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:30 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, George Baker, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: George Baker, Yvan Bernier, John Duncan, Wayne Easter, Charles Hubbard, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gary Lunn, Bill Matthews and Carmen Provenzano

Other Members present:

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Earl Wiseman, Director General, International Affairs Directorate, Fisheries Management; David Bevan, Director General, Conservation and Protection; Ben Whelan, Offshore Surveillance Officer, Conservation and Protection. From the North West Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO): Dr. Leonard I. Chepel, Executive Secretary.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the. Committee proceeded to the consideration of Fisheries Management.

Earl Wiseman, Dr. Leonard I. Chepel, David Bevan and Ben Whelan made opening statements.

At 10:40 o'clock a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:20 o'clock a.m., the sitting resumed.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 12:58 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
