MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
(Meeting No. 10)

Wednesday, November 26, 1997

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 1:20 o’clock p.m., this day, in Salle communautaire de Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon, the Chair, George Baker, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: George Baker, Yvan Bernier, John Duncan, Wayne Easter, Charles Hubbard, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gary Lunn, Bill Matthews, Lawrence O'Brien and Peter Stoffer.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Lower North Shore Fishermen Association: Paul Nadeau, Director General; Andrew Fequet, President; Marvin Buckle, Secretary; John Evans, Treasurer; Pierce Nadeau, Member; Hollis Lavallée, Member; Wesley Etheridge, Member; Clyde Bobbitt, Member; Marc Monger, Member; Riley Lavallée, Member; German Dumas, Member; Réjean Guillemette, Member; Winston Bobitt, Member; Henry Driscoll, Member, Willie-Dan Ransom and Lloyd Ransom:

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee considered the Fisheries Management in the Atlantic Provinces.

Paul Nadeau made an opening statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

Peter Stoffer moved,--That the Committee have a working dinner in Miramichi to discuss future business, the proposed trip to the West coast and informal discussions on what the Committee has heard on their trip to Atlantic Canada and to the Lower North Shore of Quebec.

Yvan Bernier moved,--That the Committee pay witness expenses for certain witnesses from the Lower North Shore Fishermen's Association who appeared before the Committee on Wednesday, November 26, 1997 in Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon.

At 3:25 o'clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to later this day.

Alexandre Dumas and Cliff Joncas made opening statements and answered questions.

Daniel Fequet and Alexandre Dumas made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:20 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
