MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
Thursday, April 30, 1998
The Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:06 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Scott Brison, Dick Harris, Yvan Loubier, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman, Nelson Riis, Monte Solberg, Paul Szabo, Paddy Torsney and Tony Valeri.
Acting Members present: Paul Crête for Gilles Perron, Denis Coderre for Mark Assad.
Other Member present: Christiane Gagnon.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Richard Domingue, Research Officer.
Witnesses: Graduate Students Association: Cindy Robinson, Carleton University. Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada: Robert J. In accordance with the Order of Reference of the House of Commons of Tuesday, March 31, 1998, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-36, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 24, 1998. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, April 2, 1998, Meeting No. 67).
On Part 1.
Cindy Robinson, Robert Giroux and Gerry Brown made statements and, with Pierre Killeen, answered questions.
On motion of Paddy Torsney, it was agreed, - That the clerk be authorized to make the necessary arrangements for working meals for the Committee when required.
At 10:16 o'clock a.m. the sitting was suspended.
At 10:33 o'clock a.m. the sitting resumed.
Gérald Larose made a statement and, with the other witnesses answered questions.
At 12:04 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
