MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
Wednesday, October 29, 1997
The Standing Committee on Finance met at 3:36 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 371, West Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roger Gallaway, David Iftody, Karen Redman, Nelson Riis, Paul Szabo and Paddy Torsney.
Acting Members present: Odina Desrochers for Yvon Loubier; Alex Shepherd for Gary Pillitteri.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch: Richard Domingue, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Chemical Producers’ Association: Richard Paton, President and CEO. From the Conference of Defence Associations: Colonel Gilbert Saint-Louis red’t, Chairman; Colonel Sean Henry red’t, Senior Defence Analyst. From the Hotel Association of Canada: Tony Pollard, President.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its Pre-Budget Consultation Study. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, October 15, 1997, Meeting No. 3).
Richard Patton; Gilbert Saint-Louis and Tony Pollard made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
On motion of Paddy Torsney, it was agreed, --That when required, the clerk be authorized to make the necessary arrangements for working meals for the Committee.
On motion of Monte Solberg, it was agreed, --That the Committee invite the Minister of Finance to appear before this Committee in order to review the Main Estimates and explain their spending priorities foe the Department of Finance.
At 4:55 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
