WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:40 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Stan Dromisky, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sarmite Bulte, Norman Doyle, Stan Dromisky, Raymonde Folco, Sophia Leung, Steve Mahoney, John N. McKay, Grant McNally, Réal Ménard, Maria Minna, Deepak Obhrai, and John Reynolds.

 

Acting Members present: Murray Calder for Jacques Saada.

 

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.

 

Witnesses: From the Immigration Legislative Advisory Review Group: Robert Trempe, Chair; Roslyn Kunin, Member; Susan Davis, Member.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of Recommendation 155 of the Report of the Legislative Review Advisory Group entitled "Not just Numbers: A Canadian Framework for Future Immigration", particularly issues relating to removal and detention

 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:12 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned until Thursday, February 26, 1998.
