Tuesday, April 27, 1999

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hélène Alarie, Paul Bonwick, Rick Borotsik, John Harvard, Howard Hilstrom, Jake Hoeppner, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle, Rose-Marie Ur.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Researcher; Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Revenue: Mike Jordan, Director General, Trade Policy and Interpretation Directorate, Customs and Trade Administration Branch; Phil McLester, Acting Director, Nomenclature and Tariff Treatment Policy Division, Customs and Trade Administration Branch. From the Dairy Farmers of Canada: John Core, First Vice-President; Shelley MacInnis, Assistant Director, Policy and Government Relations.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee held an information session on the Impact of the recent Canadian international Trade Tribunal's Decision regarding the tariff classification of certain butteroil blends. (March 26, 1999 - Reference No AP-98-055)

Mike Jordan, John Core made opening statements and, with other witnesses, answered questions.

At 11:01 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
