Tuesday, March 16, 1999

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:05 a.m., this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hélène Alarie, Rick Borotsik, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, Denis Coderre, Odina Desrochers, John Harvard, Howard Hilstrom, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire, Ian Murray, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada: Michelle Comeau, Associate Deputy Minister; Heather Clemenson, Chief, Rural Analysis, Rural Secretariat; Kevin Doyle, Manager, Federal Policy Integration, Rural Secretariat.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to consider the Mandate, Management and Operation of the Rural Secretariat.

Michelle Comeau made an opening statement and, with other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:54 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
