The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-food met at 9:08 a.m., this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, Joe McGuire, presiding.


Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Paul Bonwick, Rick Borotsik, Murray Calder, Jean-Guy Chrétien, Denis Coderre, John Harvard, Jake Hoeppner, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

 

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch: Sonya Dakers, Research Coordinator.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to examine the Multilateral Agreement on Investment and its Impact on Agriculture.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, -- That the Committee jointly meet with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade for the purpose of receiving a visiting delegation of the World Bank in Ottawa, on Tuesday, March 24, 1998.

 

Witnesses: From the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Mike Gifford, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Market and Industry Services Branch; Paul Martin, Acting Director, Multilateral Trade Policy Division, Market and Industry Services Branch.

From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: John Gero, Director General, Trade Policy -- Bureau II.

 

John Gero made an opening statement and, with Mike Gifford, answered questions.

 

At 10:53 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
