TUESDAY,, NOVEMBER 25, 1997

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 10:13 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Guy Saint-Julien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, John Bryden, John Finlay, David Iftody, Gerald Keddy, Derrek Konrad, Judi Longfield, Bernard Patry, Guy Saint-Julien and Bryon Wilfert,


In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament
: Mary C. Hurley and Jill Wherrett, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Government of the Northwest Territories: The Honourable Jim Antoine, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs; Peter Bannon, Director, Policy and Coordinator. From the Sahtu Secretariat Inc.: Larry Tourangeau, President; Chief Everett Kakfwi, Fort Good Hope. From the N.W.T. Chamber of Commerce: Julia Mott, Co-Chair, Government Affairs Committee; Bob Brooks, Executive Director.

The Committee resumed consideration Bill C-6, An Act to provide for an integrated system of land and water management in the Mackenzie Valley, to establish certain boards for that purpose and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

The Honourable Jim Antoine made a statement and, with Peter Bannon answered questions.

Julia Mott, from the NWT Chamber of Commerce, made a statement and, with Bob Brooks, answered questions.
