Presenting Reports from Committees

Mr. Bélisle (La Prairie), from the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, presented the 1st Report of the Committee (Chapter 5 of the 1993 Auditor General's Report -- Information for Parliament -- Understanding Deficits and Debt). -- Sessional Paper No. 8510-351-7.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the government was requested by the Committee to table a comprehensive response.

A copy of the relevant Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence (Issues Nos. 2, 3, 6 and 7 which includes this Report) was tabled.

Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Lee (Scarborough -- Rouge River), seconded by Mr. Assadourian (Don Valley North), Bill C-242, An Act to amend the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, the Criminal Code and the Young Offenders Act (improvement to public safety), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Ménard (Hochelaga -- Maisonneuve), seconded by Mrs. Lalonde (Mercier), Bill C-243, An Act to amend the Department of Labour Act (eligibility for assistance for long-service employees), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Questions on Order Paper

Mr. Robichaud (Secretary of State (Parliamentary Affairs)) presented the answer to a question on the Order Paper.

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The Order was read for the consideration of the Business of Supply.

Mr. Marchand (Québec-Est), seconded by Mr. Ménard (Hochelaga -- Maisonneuve), moved, -- That this House denounce the government's lack of action in the agricultural sector, which is currently facing the most significant changes in thirty years.

Debate arose thereon.

PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS

At 5:52 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(7), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.

Mr. Solomon (Regina -- Lumsden), seconded by Mr. Althouse (Mackenzie), moved, -- That, in the opinion of this House, the government should consider repealing The Patent Act Amendment Act, Chapter 2, Statutes of Canada, 1993, to make prescription drugs more affordable to Canadians and to encourage the creation of jobs in Canada by generic drug companies. (Private Members' Business M-167)

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Standing Order 96(1), the time provided for consideration of Private Members' Business expired and the Order was dropped from the Order Paper.

PROCEEDINGS ON ADJOURNMENT MOTION

At 6:50 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 38(1), the question ``That this House do now adjourn'' was deemed to have been proposed in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 38(1).
