The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), given that Lynx Air has filed for court protection from creditors saying that “the compounding financial pressures associated with inflation, fuel costs, exchange rates, cost of capital, regulatory costs and competitive tension in the Canadian market have ultimately proven too steep a mountain for our organization to overcome” the committee invite the Minister of Transport, the Commissioner of Competition, the National Airlines Council of Canada and other witnesses the committee deems relevant, to discuss the state of airline competition in Canada and that the committee report its findings to the House.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study of the Competition Act as it relates to air travel and issues relating to multi-carrier and single carrier markets which serve northern, rural and remote communities in Canada including interline agreements; that witnesses, including industry representatives, relevant customer and community representatives and officials from the Department of Transport, be called to provide testimony over the course of at least six meetings, with the possibility of travel to a selected number of rural and remote airports to be included in the study; that the committee report its conclusions and recommendations to the House and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to this report.

It was agreed, — That the committee invite the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities to appear on the budget 2024, and their appearance takes place as soon as possible.

It was agreed, — That the committee adopt the calendar.

At 12:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
