Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, October 23, 2023, the committee resumed its study of growing problem of car thefts in Canada.

Scott Wade, Matt Peggs and Aaron McCrorie made statements and, with Martin Roach, answered questions.

Motion

Alistair MacGregor moved, — That forest and wildland firefighters should be included under the “Firefighter” category in the National Occupational Classification (NOC), and that this be reported to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Jennifer O'Connell moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the word “That” the following: “, in the option of the committee” and by replacing the words “this be reported to the House’’ with the words “, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the report”.

Subamendment

Alistair MacGregor moved, — That the amendment be amended by adding after the word “National Occupational Classification (NOC),” the following: “that the Chair present the report to the House, and”.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

After debate, the question was put on the subamendment of Alistair MacGregor and it was agreed to.

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Jennifer O'Connell, as amended, and it was agreed to.

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) the committee commenced its study of modification to the National Occupational Classification of firefighters.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That, in the opinion of the Committee, forest and wildland firefighters should be included under the “Firefighters” category in the National Occupational Classification (NOC), that the Chair present the report to the House and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the report.

At 4:38 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:46 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Brian Kingston and Flavio Volpe made statements and answered questions.

At 5:35 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
