Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the clerk of the committee presided over the election of a vice-chair.

On motion of Laila Goodridge, it was agreed, — That Stephen Ellis be elected First Vice-Chair of the committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, the committee resumed its study of the emergency situation facing Canadians in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Theresa Tam made a statement and, with the Matthew Tunis, Stephen Bent and Howard Njoo, answered questions.

Jean-Denis Garon moved, — That the committee proceed to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 11; NAYS: 0.

Motion

Laila Goodridge moved, — That the committee meet in camera on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, to plan for its consideration of Bill C-31, An Act respecting cost of living relief measures related to dental care and rental housing.

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 3; NAYS: 5.

On motion of Jean-Denis Garon, it was agreed, — That the committee meet in camera on Thursday, October 20, 2022, to plan for its consideration of Bill C-31, An Act respecting cost of living relief measures related to dental care and rental housing.

On motion of Jean-Denis Garon, it was agreed, — That the committee hold two two-hour meetings on Monday, October 24, 2022, in relation to its study of Bill C-31, An Act respecting cost of living relief measures related to dental care and rental housing, in advance of the clause-by-clause consideration of the said bill to be held the same day at 7:00 p.m.

At 12:59 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
